With Covid-19, it has never been more important to make sure you are taking time for self-care each day. As women, we can get so busy putting others before ourselves that we may not prioritise our own needs. The new realities of working from home, temporary unemployment, home-schooling children, and a lack of physical contact with others will have taken some time to get used to. Adapting to lifestyle changes such as these, and managing concerns of contracting the virus or for people close to us who are particularly vulnerable, has been challenging for all of us.
Perhaps you are in a situation where you have lost your job or had your work hours reduced, or your significant other is temporarily unemployed and you have had to increase your workload. It is important to remember that self-care does not have to cost anything and it can be incorporated into your day with some forward-planning.
Set aside a little time each day to refresh – it may be an early morning walk, a guided online meditation, listening to a podcast, or perhaps as simple as enjoying a cup of tea in a quiet space before you start your day. In the evening, you can relax and de-stress by reading a book, watching your favourite TV series, enjoying a bath, or applying a face mask.

Stress can put such strain on your skin and body. This year, I have seen so many clients with inflammatory or dehydrated skin and acne flare ups. It really highlights the need for us all to take some time to do something good for ourselves – for those clients, it was booking in some time to relax and unwind in the clinic with a beauty treatment, or to focus on improving the condition of their skin.
Some questions for you to ask yourself:
Do you take time out for yourself?
If yes, when was the last time?
Do you feel guilty if you take time out for yourself?
What brings you happiness?
What do you wish you could do more of?
How could you introduce this into your daily routine?
Learn to love you and put yourself on the top of your to-do list. You are worth the time.
